Van Dyke Parks shares some perspectives on the music industry at by:Larm in Oslo, Norway.

Van Dyke Parks is an American composer, arranger, producer, instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, writer, and actor, perhaps best known for his collaborations with musician Brian Wilson, and especially for his lyrical contributions to the Beach Boys’ Smile project.

Besides numerous collaborations with the Beach Boys, he has worked with such notable performers as The Byrds, Tim Buckley, Loudon Wainwright III, Rufus Wainwright, Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Joanna Newsom, Grizzly Bear, Ringo Starr and more. In addition to producing other artists, Parks has released several studio albums of his own recordings.

At by:Larm 2013 he was interviewed by British music critic and journalist Barney Hoskyns. Hoskyns asks Parks one, and only one, extensive and very interesting question…
